About David Calloway

David Calloway I have been creating computer generated algorithmic art for more than 40 years. For most of that time, I wrote custom software to automatically generate artwork in various styles. I search for hidden beauty in artificial environments, similar to the way a photographer searches for and captures beauty in the real world. More recently, I have been experimenting with the new field of AI-generated art that is an extension of the types of algorithms I have written in the past. I have been selected to show my work at several juried shows at the Orlando Art Museum as part of their "1st Thursday" program, and on one occasion my entry won the " People's Choice Award" as the most-appreciated work at the show. I have also won several "Editors Choice" awards at various on-line art galleries. Once I start with a concept, I typically work for 6 months or more developing the software to implement my vision. Almost always, though, the final concept ends up being quite different from the original vision as the process of implementation results in new avenues to explore and I often go down these new paths, producing art that is often quite different from what I originally had in mind. This whole process is very iterative - I develop an initial rough version, and then based on the results I tweak the algorithm to create a modification of the original output. It is typical for hundreds or even thousands of changes to be made before I finally produce something that I consider "print-worthy" and save for printing and hanging on a wall. I hope you enjoy some of the examples I have included here at the Fine Art America site.
